Yesterday as I sat across the table from my daughter, I realized that I’m living answered prayers. When I was a teenage I had dreams of attending culinary school post high school. I wanted to eventually travel the world like Anthony Bourdain and become an award winning food writer. But once the academic scholarships came rolling in senior year, I decided on the “safer” route of attending to a traditional university and earning two Bachelor degrees. And now 15+ years later after graduating from Florida State University, I realized that God did indeed allow me the opportunity to be a food writer.

My first food post here on The Blogger Next Dior was in 2014 about this amazing Thai restaurant in Jacksonville, FL. I can still remember the peanut dipping sauce for the Chicken Satay. And now here in 2025, I get to share with you my thoughts on national burger chain on behalf of Yelp Broward Palm Beach!

Okay, enough of the sentimental stuff. Let’s get to the food.

About Habit Burger Bar & Grill

According to Wikipedia, Habit Burger & Grill, formerly known as The Habit Burger Grill, is a California-based fast casual restaurant chain that specializes in chargrilled hamburgers. What’s special about chargrilled burgers is that they are cooked over an open flame which gives it its signature smoky flavor.

The Interior

The interior of Habit Burger & Grill is clean, bright, and modern with a casual, comfortable setup. The dining area has a lot of natural light coming in through the large front windows. This makes the restaurant feel open and inviting which is in sync with with California roots.

During this visit, however, we opted to sit outside as to take advantage of the (few days) of cool, Florida autumn weather.

What We Ordered

At the start of my order I alerted the team member taking my order that I have a gluten sensitivity. The manager overheard and advised me that I could enjoy any protein (i.e. burger patty, chicken breast, or Ahi tuna) lettuce wrapped. I chose a single lettuce wrapped burger with white American cheese, bacon, caramelized onions onions and barbeque sauce.

For my side I opted for the tempura green beans for Ava to try even though I did end up taking a bite just so I could review them. Habit Burger Grill offers Pepsi products and handcrafted juices. I gravitated to the dragonfruit limeade because the fuschia color was so damn pretty to me.

Ava ordered her usual: a plain hamburger, fries and a Pepsi (she had to make due because she’s a Coca Cola girl at heart).

What we loved

The burgers were amazing! I’m usually not a double patty type, but I recommend it for Habit Burger & Grill as their patties are on the slender side (but just as delicious as a single!).

The house made ranch is everything dreams are made of. It was a great dip for the fries and tempura green beans.

The dragonfruit limeade, which was delicious but a bit too sweet for my taste. I’d give it a 8 out of 10.

There was also a condiment bar with jalapeños, pepperoncinis, and chili peppers, which was a fun touch for customizing your meal.

The hamburger gummy candy was a cute finish for the kids’ meal.

What could be improved

The tempura green beans on their own were a 7 out of 10, but the ranch brought them up to an 8.5.

The fries were the only letdown. They could have used a little more time in the fryer, so we gave them a 4 out of 10.

Final Thoughts

Our food was brought out to us, and the staff checked in to make sure everything was going well. The restaurant was clean and welcoming throughout our visit.

We will definitely be returning, especially for the burgers and that amazing ranch. The sides weren’t our favorite, but since we are a burger-loving family, this spot is staying on our list.
