The Ultimate Summer Skin Care Morning Routine: Body Edition

With summer just around the corner, it's time to revamp your skincare routine and give your body the pampering it deserves. In this blog post I will walk you through my favorite products for a summer skincare morning routine that will leave your body feeling refreshed, revitalized, and protected. The best part? You can conveniently find all these products at Target and take advantage of their convenient curbside pickup service.

STep #1: moisturizing body wash

With summer almost here, it’s essential to prioritize your skin’s hydration and nourishment. That’s why incorporating a moisturizing body wash in your morning shower routine is an absolute must. Summer's heat, coupled with outdoor activities and exposure to chlorine and saltwater, can leave your skin feeling dry, dull, and lacking essential moisture. Sorry but now is not the season for Irish Spring or Suave body washes. And no I don’t care if they are on sale.

I’m currently loving the Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash with Shea Butter. The scent is warm and sexy while the gentle lather is the perfect foundation for radiant, supple skin throughout the day.

STep #2: body Scrub

While a moisturizing body wash sets the stage by hydrating your skin, a body scrub takes it to the next level by exfoliating away dead skin cells and revealing a radiant, smooth complexion. The exfoliating action of the scrub primes your skin to better absorb subsequent products like moisturizers and sunscreens, maximizing their effectiveness.

For an inexpensive but effective option, I recommend the Tree Hut Moroccan Rose Shea Sugar Body Scrub. Formulated with real Sugar, Shea Butter, Moroccan Argan Oil, Rosehip Oil, and a blend of six natural oils, this scrub helps to deeply moisturize and soften dry skin while helping to promote skin elasticity.

STep #3: oil based body wash

After using a scrub it’s important to go back in with an oil-based body wash. One reason being the need to double cleanse because one lather isn’t enough. The second reason is that you need to replenish the moisture to your skin after exfoliation. The rich, luxurious texture of an oil-based formula creates a protective barrier on your skin, shielding it from environmental aggressors and preventing moisture loss throughout the day.

I’m going to be honest. I had no idea oil-based body washes were even a thing. Got to love TikTok. Yep. Social media influenced me to try out Naturium’s The Glow Getter Multi-Oil Hydrating Body Wash. Listen! If you could only purchase one product from this routine, let it be this body wash. GAME CHANGER. “The Glow” was evident from the first use.

STep #4: body oil

Now that you’re out of the shower incorporating a body oil as the next step in your routine is essential to seal in moisture and maintain a healthy, radiant glow throughout the day. When it comes to body oils, the Neutrogena Body Oil is a beauty classic and I can totally understand why.

This lightweight and fast-absorbing body oil is specifically formulated to nourish and hydrate dry skin, providing long-lasting moisture without feeling heavy or greasy. Infused with a delicate sesame scent, it leaves your skin subtly scented and irresistibly soft. Its non-comedogenic formula ensures it won't clog pores, making it suitable for all skin types.

STep #5: body moisturizer

Step five calls for a body moisturizer to lock in the hydration and keep your skin feeling nourished and protected throughout the day. While a body oil provides a lightweight and fast-absorbing layer of moisture, using a cream, lotion, or butter on top of the body oil offers a multitude of benefits.

These thicker formulations act as a barrier, sealing in the moisture from the body oil and preventing it from evaporating too quickly. They provide long-lasting hydration, combating the drying effects of sun exposure, air conditioning, and outdoor activities.

Last year I saw a TikTok (I know. I know.) about how the Jergens Natural Glow +Firming Daily Moisturizer was brown girl friendly. Since it’s new to my routine I don’t have a verdict on it yet. But give me about two weeks and I will have a full review on the blog.

STep #6: spf

As you complete your summer skincare morning routine, the last and most crucial step is applying SPF to shield your skin from harmful UV rays. I’m using up the last bit of my lotion version of the Black Girl Sunscreen, but for a more convenient application I plan to switch over to the children’s spray version of the Black Girl Sunscreen, which also happens to have a higher SPF count.

By following this step-by-step morning routine you're ensuring that your skin stays hydrated, radiant, and shielded from harmful UV rays. Remember, all the products mentioned in this routine can be easily found at Target, and their convenient curbside pickup service allows for a hassle-free shopping experience. So, get ready to embrace the summer season with confidence, knowing that your skin is well taken care of and ready to glow.
